• Bellevue Essentials

    Bellevue Essentials provides a 10-week introduction to civic leadership. The transformational program highlights the structure and daily operations of city government in Bellevue. Topics include demographics, public process, diversity, equity and inclusion, city planning, economic development, human services, utilities, finance and transportation, fire, police and more.


    Apply for fall 2022 session

    Bellevue Essentials returns to in-person classes for the fall 2022 session, Wednesday evenings, Sept. 28–Dec. 7. Tuition is $150 and fee waivers are available to those with financial need. Applications are due 5 p.m., July 27.  


    Graduates are well-equipped to get more involved in the city and nonprofit arenas on the Eastside, and become members of the Bellevue Essentials Extended (BEES) alumni organization, a networking and civic engagement group.

    The admission process involves a short application and three essay questions. Applicants must live or work in Bellevue and be committed to attending at least eight of the 10 sessions.

    Essays can be typed or written as a separate word document or verbally in an MP3 audio file emailed to jellenhorn@bellevuewa.gov. Maximum of 100 words per question.
